Information on the cricut and the cricut expression?

I do a lot of wood monograms and would love to start doing stuff with vinyl on cups and glasses. But i see some many different cricuts its all a little overwhelming is there another product that will do the same? You have to buy paper, cartridges which are like 30 to 40 bucks and tools. please help me make the right choose before i spend a bunch of money.
