Senior ladies...did you ever monogram your linens yourself?

How i remember the ladies of my family having a night in to monogram their hankies. How twee and innocent by todays standard. Sometimes 'transfers' where issued free with ladies magazines.These were mainly ironed on rather than stitched, but it took the good part of an evening to select appropriate 'transfer', if they were to given away as gifts.
